I made the mistake of accepting my mom's friend request. a) she comments on EVERYTHING and it's obnoxious, and b) she gets mad about things on
facebook... like, who my brother or I am friends with. Womp womp.

I denied my mom. We don't need to be friends on facebook. My facebook is private for a reason. She'd be upset by my cursing and my pictures and
whatnot.

If she wouldn't go apeshit about it, I would. However, after having seen what happened when she THOUGHT I deleted her one day, I'm not about to open
that can of worms.

i friended my mom, but she's not really that into it. she just joined because my aunts were pressuring her, and she's using it more as a method of
keeping in contact with them than me. she's laid back anyway, so even if she posted more it would still be fine, and i never need or would need to filter
myself.
on the other hand, some of the relatives i've friended... i just feel like older people don't quite understand internet etiquette, and it can make for awkward convos. if you feel like you really must friend someone you don't want to go into your settings and block them from seeing most of your profile. you can seriously pick and choose whatever any person sees of your profile, even if they are your friend. you can do it to individuals or a whole group. my uber religious aunts can't see my status updates, basic info, or pictures i've been tagged in. ETA: seriously, have i already talked about this? how come nobody edits their privacy settings. if you MUST add people out of guilt limit their access. it's not hard. My mom can't see status updates or tagged photos. She went apeshit that she couldn't see my friends list (because she got mad about someone that my
brother was friends with, so she wanted to go through MY friends list and block people). She comments on anything and everything, and adds all of my high
school friends. It's freakin' annoying.

my condolences. your mom is crazy. really this all comes back to old people REALLY not getting internet etiquette, etc. they always seem to think friending
people is a far bigger deal than it really is or want to friend people it's not really appropriate to friend or impose themselves and generally come off
like they are old and don't understand how to function in modern society. i'm just glad my mom is rational (or maybe even irrationally turned off by
the technology)...

Oh, she absolutely is. For reference, view my page and her comment on one of my Social Interview questions. She addresses my boyfriend directly... and he is
weirded out.

I'm friends with my parents and a few other family members. I don't care. They usually don't have much to say about the stuff on there

i actually did go and read what your mom posted. that doesn't come off that bad. i mean, a little "let me show you my daughter's naked baby
pictures" but very standard parent. the friend list approval thing is over the top though...

Yeah... she got mad that my brother is friends with our former step-brother on facebook... got pissed off about it (at me, not him) and wanted to go through my
friends list so she could "protect herself" and block anyone that was "out to hurt her". Generally speaking, she's overly sensitive and
doesn't realize that facebook is not real life. She also asked me to look up one of her friends to see if she was actually not on facebook or if she'd
blocked her... and called me crying about one of her friends being facebook friends with my former stepdad's sister. For real? Ugh.
No, what she posted wasn't that bad... it's just the compulsive need to comment on everything. And start facebook chats. And ask stupid questions. On one of my pictures from spring break in Ireland I mentioned something about stopping at a Spar and asking for directions. She had to comment and ask "what's a Spar?" Well, there's this brilliant thing called Google... it will probably answer that question faster than I will. |

I'm so glad my parents aren't interested in technology. I mean, I tell my mom a lot of things anyway. Like I show her pictures I take when I'm out
with my friends and stuff but I don't want her involved in ALL of my business.
But like some of my friends parents are on Facebook and I won't add them. I hate that I have to censor my language because certain people aren't accepting of it. If you know me at all, in person, you know how I am. So why should I have to change how I am online? But then there are the people who are COMPLETELY different human beings online than in real life.. I just don't get it. People are so weird. |

yeah, one of my aunts spends all her time playing weird apps on fb. i don't really get it, but plenty of people our age are playing them too, i guess.
she's also one of the more religious aunts. so, yeah, she can't see my profile status because i don't want to have to self-censor more than
normal.
i actually suggested my mom friend two of my friends who just got married so she could see pictures of me in their wedding, and she was like, "no, they don't want ME to friend them. that's too weird." god bless my mom for actually getting it, even if it wouldn't have been that weird in this case. I would hate if my parents were on Facebook. My Dad suggested something like getting one and I was like, UHHH NO, DONT. It's not like I do anything
horrible but yeah, the amount of swearing and weird things that I say that aren't fit for parent's ears would shock my mum, definitely. Plus, almost
every picture I have is of me out, drinking. My dad would be proud, though..

I was listening to a girl talk about farmville while i was sitting in one of the student lounges on campus. I swear to god, she was obsessed with it, and
became very loud and animated when she started talking about how "growin' strawberries took [her] from 100 bocks to three gees in one day, guy".
My parents don't have facebook, although my dad apprently gets invites all the time. My brother has one, but when asked to add me, he said that was "too weird".
