looks delicious, linz!
doesn't it feel good to finish a project, pawn? i'm kind of a notorious half-asser so whenever i truly complete something i feel like a champion. here's my mostly finished granny square clutch...
the colors look better in real life. seriously. i could not get a true pic of them. Gwyneth Paltrow: "I'm superstitious. Whenever I start a new movie I kill a hobo with a hammer."

i love it, too, pawn! seriously, i'm totally geeking out on crafts lately, and i love seeing other people's work and encouraging other people to go
forth and craft with us.
suz, if you can make a granny square you can make this clutch. it's literally four big granny squares and two small sewn together (well, i crocheted mine together, but i will sew in the future. i think it would look much tidier.). i just bought the stitch n' +%@*+ crochet guide because i liked the knitting one so well. it seems very comprehensive. i was looking for something to teach me all the terms so i can read patterns. i found a free pattern on ravelry for a crocheted "popcorn" garland, as in, it looks like friggin' popcorn. i want to make some to decorate my tree because we are going sans ornaments this year due to fefe's age and grab-happy tendencies. I really hate using thinner yarn. And I really hate thinner needles. The ones I'm gonna use on this next scarf are an 8 and the ones I've using are
like a 15. Soo much more frustrating.

okay, i know i already posted a pic, but now it's actually completely done. i added buttons and sewed in the lining.
i would definitely do things a lot differently if i made another one (which i probably will because it's RIDICULOUSLY simple). i'm trying to conquer this crochet pattern for a popcorn ball garland, but, like pawn, i'm much clumsier the tinier the needle. so far it's a no go, but it took me a whole LOT of tries to get the granny square thing down. i've also decided my fuzzy yarn isn't making the most attractive g squares, but i still love love love the color combo. so, i'm just making the afghan pattern on the back of the yarn label (it's lion brand, and they make a whole lot of patterns available for free on their website, etc). i've also got this idea in my head about covering my entire dining room ceiling with paper chain garlands, like hanging all scalloped style. don't know if that will come to fruition or not... more of you need to be crafting and pic posting, damn it. get into gear. suz, how's your granny square afghan coming along? not making one? why the %+*% not?! (it's lion brand, and they make a whole lot of patterns available for free on their website, etc).I love Lion Brand yarn. They have free tutorials and junk on the website, too. Corrie, I have no idea how to granny square. haha. I did finish a blanket about a year ago but it was all single stitch crocheted with the huge homespun Lion Brand yarn. We got a new digital camera so once I put the software on my computer I'll take a picture and upload it.. Now that I'm somewhat an adult, I don't share my life on the computer like I used to. |

granny squares are SUPER easy once you get the hang of it. the first row is a bit tricky (well, not even) but after that you're crocheting the blank spaces
(instead of into stitches). now that i'm trying to branch out i'm finding that actual crocheting is a bit harder to pick up than granny squares.
if anyone is interested (i understand if you're not), i could post the you tube videos and some other tutorials that helped me figure out how to do them. it's probably even easier to learn if you actually know how to crochet and some terms. started a scarf with the basketweave like the one i posted on the last page. mines a lot smaller though, i did ten loops instead of the 20 it said to because i
wanted a scarf i could actually use. im maybe like 4" in and i dont know if like the look of it. i may unravel and try something else.
ended up getting some cream yarn and some navy yarn. gonna make myself a scarf like the one i just finished (striped/rib). i feel so nautical with this color combo. im maybe 6 or 7 inches into it and im alreadt liking it.

pawn, crochet may actually be more up your alley because the end result is often something a bit lacier. that may be more appropriate for your warmer climate.
also, crochet is, as far as i have experienced, FAR easier than knitting. i cannot even explain how easy the afghan i'm making is. i literally had to
make a huge chain, after that i just use the same stitch again and again.
i've wanted to make cushions for the makeshift bench (i pushed some shelves together) in felix's room FOR.EV.ER. and last night i finally decided to just whip something up. i had had some slightly more complicated ideas, but in the end i just made a rectangular pillow and cinched it with 2 buttons (well, 4 buttons, 2 on each side).

I promised my bff that I'd make pillows for her months ago and your post just reminded me. I should get on that. But that pillow is cute! I like that
fabric.

MORE CRAFTS, LADIES! What? do you people have LIVES?! Am I the only one who crafts at night while watching Hulu because it gives me a piece of my adult
brain back after hanging with a toddler all day?! DAMN.
also, thanks, jess. in my mind, i was picturing making different shapes, having sides and piping (instead of just sewing it together like a pillow), etc. but, when it came down to it i was just putting it off and putting it off and finally i just needed something to happen. today, was a FANTASTIC day in my miniature craftiverse. I reverse engineered (or something like that) a granny STAR from a picture i saw on Flickr. it's made like a granny square, but IT'S A STAR! Come on. That's %%+#*!$ sweet.
I also made a holiday wreath with some yarn. I don't have a picture because I made it at night (poor lighting for a pic) and it's outside on my door right now (where my landlord is hanging building our porch... I'd feel dumb running out and taking a pic). I collected a bunch of cute DIY wreath tutorials and posted them on my tumblr. Gwyneth Paltrow: "I'm superstitious. CORRIE. I LOVE THAT.
Also, I'm maybe halfway done with my scarf. I love big yarn. Hahahaha. I think once I finish this, i may give the thin yarn a try again. And, uh, me and my friends all hung out yesterday.. and we definitely ended up sitting in my friends knitting room knitting. It's startting to happen quite often. haha. |

I learned to knit! My residence hall is actually doing this volunteer project "knitting for the homeless" thing so everything I knit with this yarn
goes to the homeless, but i figure its free practice. We're all mostly making scarves and one girl is teaching how to make hats. My plan is to be awesome
by the end of this and buy my own yarn to make all kinds of stuff!
I've always been jealous of really crafty people. This girl I worked with at Hallmark always made hand bags, tote bags, etc. and I always bought them from her... but the more I look at them the easier it looks! So I think that may be my next project.
and i wont wait for you forever while you run around like JFK. you watched that poor girl waste the best years of her life, and i'll be damned, if i am going out, i will not go out that way.
